We have been asked many times to add a donation page to the board, but we have always resisted. However now it is time to ask you, to help us keep our board, images and servers online.

Your donation will help keep the board running and contribute towards the costs of our server infrastructure.

As a thank you for your donation, you will given access to the VIP area of the board and all Google Ads will be disabled for 30 days.

We really did not want to go this route, however we have tried using Google Ads (which many have complained about), but the income from the adverts is far too low to keep our infrastructure up and running.

So
donations are now live, you can click on the links below or the Donate tab at the top of the board if you wish to make a contribution.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone that has donated to the team.

Keeping OpenBh and this Forum online is getting more and more expensive. It costs in the region of €2400+ per year to keep OpenBh and this Forum online. OpenBh has always been provided completely free of charge by a number of hard working OpenBh Team members in their spare time.

However so far this year, the donations only cover 50% of our costs, without donations we simply won't be able to continue indefinitely.

Just a reminder to everyone, that we need donations.

So far in this year, we have received a total of €260 (before paypal fee's) in donations.

If we don't receive enough donations to cover our costs, then we will have no choice but end the OpenBh images.

It is hard for me to finance a personal hobby type web-server and pay maintenance cost for other web-servers too. One thing that almost all enigma2 forums have in common now is requests for monetary donations. A few years ago, monetary requests were not seen much on enigma2 forums–if at all because other forms of support were available. (Viewing Internet archives will support this.)

Image Downloads aside, just running an Internet forum such as this one can cost some money. You have domain and server expenses in most cases, then you have for example XenForo costs which for me are a minimum of 80 U.S. dollars per year if the site is to stay updated. Someone with some knowledge of Internet Forums has to take care of the site for free and keep it running or else pay someone to do it. A person can spend $200-$300 U.S. dollars per month on a web-server that has downloadable files without doing much because costs add up.

Money goes fast when operating web-servers, but there are also ways to minimize or cut without it really being noticed. For example, almost all FTA feeds have tons of bloat in them. The amount of space feeds use can usually be cut in half and 99.9% of the users will never notice it. Even more disc space can probably be saved if someone gets serious about it.

Removing just the SF8008 dev, dbg, and meta .ipk packages from the feeds will probably free up at least 3.2GB of disc space per receiver. You might get a tad bit more if the docs .ipk files exist and are included in the removal. 3.2GB Does Not sound like much until you start paying for it. If you have 20 receivers on the feeds and remove 3GB per receiver, then that is 60GB of disc space that does not need to be paid for every month.

Saving disc space in itself is not the whole answer, but every cost cut helps to lower the monthly bill. At the current donation rate for this website and other enigma2 websites, it is very doubtful that ALL of the main enigma2 image groups that we have seen for over a decade will exist in their current form in 2027 or 2028. Do people want to support their favorite images or not have them anymore? We will see....
