OpenBh 5.3

Release_Post.png

OpenBh 5.3 is based on the OE-Alliance 5.3 core.

So what is different in OpenBh 5.3 then?

The main change from version 5.2 to version 5.3 has been to upgrade from oe-alliance-core branch 5.2 to 5.3. The OE (Open Embedded) core on which the image is built has also undergone major changes, updates and fixes, and uses the latest bitbake version. Version 5.3 uses Python version 3.11.2 which is on average 25% faster than Python 3.10 when measured with the performance benchmark suite.

Whats New:

  • OE-A 5.3
  • Python 3.11.2
  • Gstreamer updated to version 1.22.3
  • Vu+ Multiboot feature added for all 4K Vu+ models and now updated to make the install process automated.
  • If your favourite plugins no longer work, you will need to contact the plugin authors to ask them to update their plugins for Python3.11.2
  • Added support for Gigablue UHD Trio4K Pro

Vu+ Multiboot wouldn't have been possible without the hundreds of hours that dpeddi has spent over several years (yes it's been an on going project for him in his spare time for many years) to bring this real multiboot option for all Vu+ 4K boxes.

It is something we requested from Vu+ around 7/8 years ago and they told us it was not possible to add it, well finally we can prove them wrong.

You will find more information on how to setup and use Vu+ Multiboot here:

Apart from the above you should not notice many differences between previous OpenBh 5.2 and OpenBh 5.3 images.

PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPORTING THE FOLLOWING BOXES, Edision OS Nino Pro, OS Nino +, Amiko Viper4K V40

However we may build images for these models in our "Community" images at a later date if there is enough interest.

Are you getting Oscam from the plugin downloads?
If not go into the menu, Plugins, download plugins, scroll down to softcams, and select a version to install from that, as they are compatible with later OpenBh versions.

I am now using OpenBh 5.3, and still manage to download most Kodi streams, although these are becoming less available, since a lot of providers migrated to private, pay to view, servers.
Kodi doesn't stream perfectly on my older VU+ Duo 2, unlike the Minix Neo U9 android device, which I bought, and set up, for my parents.
For dedicated Kodi streaming I advise getting something similar, but who knows how long quality streams, will be available, without paying extra.

Sorry for the misunderstanding @Mick12334
Kodi cant be install at all with vu solo 2 factory settings (I still get the same message that it doesnt have permission to create folder etc)
The stream transcoding is the plugin transcodingsetup which keep crashing if you go under 1 mbps for the quality.

You might need to remove all Kodi folders, from your hard drive, then re-install it, you will lose your video addons, and favourites, in Kodi, so make a note of them.
To locate Kodi, on your hard drive, connect your PC, to your VU+ hard drive, using Filezilla.
At the top, of Filezilla, go to Server, and click Force Showing Hidden Files.
Open up media, by clicking the + sign, then the + on hdd, you should now see the .kodi folder.

Do you have an internal hard drive for recording?
Did you tick the option to Force Showing Hidden Files, so that a tick appears by it?
Have you ever loaded Kodi before?

Is your HDD already mounted, and used for recordings?

If it is try using Filezilla again, go into media, and hdd, and see if .kodi is showing.

If this is your first time you need somewhere to store the .kodi folder, either a USB device, or internal hard drive, which needs to be mounted, on your receiver, so that youcan use it, for storage, or recordings.
