OpenBh 5.4

Important Notice:

If you like OpenBh and you want to see it continue, please don't forget to donate towards keeping the servers online.

Keeping OpenBh and this Forum online is getting more and more expensive. It costs in the region of €2400+ per year to keep OpenBh and this Forum online. OpenBh has always been provided to completely free of charge by a number of hard working OpenBh Team members in their spare time.

OpenBh 5.4 is based on the OE-Alliance 5.4 core.

So what is different in OpenBh 5.4 then?

The main change from version 5.3 to version 5.4 has been to upgrade from oe-alliance-core branch 5.3 to 5.4. The OE (Open Embedded) core on which the image is built has also undergone major changes, updates and fixes, and uses the latest bitbake version. Version 5.4 uses Python version 3.12.2.

Whats New:

  • OE-A 5.4
  • Python 3.12.2
  • Gstreamer updated to version 1.22.10
  • Vu+ Multiboot feature added for all 4K Vu+ models and now updated to make the install process automated.
  • If your favourite plugins no longer work, you will need to contact the plugin authors to ask them to update their plugins for Python3.12.2

Vu+ Multiboot wouldn't have been possible without the hundreds of hours that dpeddi has spent over several years (yes it's been an on going project for him in his spare time for many years) to bring this real multiboot option for all Vu+ 4K boxes.

It is something we requested from Vu+ around 8/9 years ago and they told us it was not possible to add it, well finally we can prove them wrong.

You will find more information on how to setup and use Vu+ Multiboot here:

Apart from the above you should not notice many differences between previous OpenBh 5.3 and OpenBh 5.4 images.

*** NOTE ***

If you use CrossEPG, then you will need to delete the crossepg folder in /media/usb or /media/hdd before you can use it in OpenBh 5.4 onwards, this is due to changes made, to keep it compatible with Python 3.12.2

unfortunately the image crashes as soon as a TV-SAT CI is inserted, I tried two of the digiquest ones to be sure, and I also reinstalled the image twice without even ( NOT channel list, NOT ever.
In conclusion, the facts are not at all comforting, given that the TV-SAT card requires its CI module for updates.
Positive, HDMI-CEC completely turns off both Sony and Panasonic TVs for the first time with this release.

We still support the SoloSE.

But when it comes to cam modules, there is not a lot we can do to help as we don't have access to every cam module for every provider.

I don't understand why it doesn't work in OpenBh 5.4 if it worked in earlier versions of the image (did it work with older versions of our image ?)

Does it work in any python3.12 image ?

If it is a CI+ module (not CI), we do not offer any support anyway, however I can tell you that Ci+ requires helper files for it to work in any E2 box, but you won't find them on here, you will need to use google to find the correct ones for our image.

the module has always worked with all releases, starting from the first openblackhole.

it is a normal CI tvsat cam from digiquest, not CI+

--works with other images in py 3.12

I don't know the answer then, I don't recall any changes between 5.3 and 5.4 that relate to CI modules, but I don't have a CI cam here so can not test anything to help.

Maybe other members / users will know more that can help you.

I did some more tests, I re-downloaded the image, if before I was sure of the problem of the new OBH 5.4 Mipsel, now I have absolute certainty.
Reinstalled in flash for another two clean times, enigma crashes as soon as the CI is inserted.
Putting the OBH 5.3 back on, the CI Digiquest TVsat works perfectly.
I also noticed that the 5.4 weighs 2 MB more than the 5.3, and in two megabytes of compressed image, there is a lot of stuff, which implies that something has been damaged. Too bad, I invested months in this image, and now that HDMi-CEC finally works, I'm sorry to give it up.

PLAN B: TVSat box :-(
