So, it's not for me: I need to take advantage of SCR/Unicable, which gives a huge freedom of watching/streaming/recording and of using many boxes all connected to one LNB only. ;)

Ok @Liquid
but after all this beautiful description of the pros and cons of the various decoders, concretely which of these tips with the following logic:
1 best ever
2 best quality-price-performance ratio
3 best buy
4 better after-sales support from the manufacturer
5 better support in the various dedicated forums
Thank you

We live in a word of relativity, not of absolute values, my dear. What is "best" for you might not be the best for me.
Do you really think that if there was an objectively "best" product we weren't all buying it? ;)
There are too many parameters in a choice, starting from the price.
But, a user might forget about the price if some features in one box for him is irreplaceable.

For instance, I find a pity that no one of these alternative box has got a proper LCD display: it's a pit to just have a channel number like in my 2000 Humax 5400.
So, every users will judge for themselves what is the "relative" best.

In my view VU+ are the best but maybe that for a secondary room I will choose a Pulse4K, one day, to save some money where is possible.

Ok,
I know your thoughts, plus we both have only vuplus boxes
But ma would have liked an analysis on the type of what "altroconsumo"friends do when they evaluate, for example, a washing machine and then finally make their own ranking (always subjective but linked to objective evaluations) including
best product ever
product with better value for money
lowest price
best buy

In order to be able to vote for one you should have tried several, I only used one but it gave me everything I could have looked for in a decoder so this is the best for me: Octagon SF8008.

Quality price Octagon SF 8008, Dreambox or VU+ which I've also had several doesn't make up for its high price.

Duo - still working but not in use
Duo2 - defunct - not working
Solo 4K - working but I suspect 1 decoder is faulty. I'm in for a new box, but which one??

Vu+ duo4kse
Dreambox two
But I prefer Dreambox to all devices because of its powerful software and excellent support

Take a look at Os Mio 4k
I had a quick look at the specs, but only 1x DVB-S2X, 1x DVB-T2/C. I need two S2X and one T2 tuner. That's what was so great about the Duo's - they supported three slots for replaceable tuners. (The Solo4K only has fixed tuners - one of the S2 tuners is malfunctioning.)
